Larry, see below public seminar that our District is putting on this month.

FENTANYL AWARENESS SEMINAR (WED, OCTOBER 26, 6-7:30 PM, in Hill Auditorium): What Parents, Students, and Staff Need to Know About the Dangers of Fentanyl
Parents, students, and staff are invited to attend a seminar on Fentanyl Awareness. This seminar will feature expert presenters with firsthand knowledge and experience regarding the dangers of fentanyl and will also detail the Chaffey District’s multi-faceted strategy to help protect students and school sites from fentanyl and other illicit contraband.
    PRESENTERS:
    • DAVID SALYER – Former DEA Task Force Officer, current Sergeant with the SBCO Sheriff’s Dept., and founder of the SBCSD Overdose Response Team
    • DAVID LOOMIS – EMS Fire Captain for the City of Ontario. Captain Loomis was instrumental in changing the Fentanyl response protocol for SBCO, which led to countless lives being saved and ultimately a reduction of fatal overdoses.
    • V.O.I.D. – (VICTIMS OF ILLICIT DRUGS). The V.O.I.D. non-profit organization was formed to raise public awareness of the immediate danger associated with the use of fentanyl and other illicit drugs.
    • TONYA ANDERSON and Canine REBA – InterQuest Canine Detection Services canine handler and account manager, & active detection canine, REBA.
    • GERMAN MARQUEZ, SB County Probation Officer, Focus West.
    • PRINCIPAL TODD HAAG – Chaffey Substance Abuse Intervention (CSI) Program.

FENTANYL ALERT – CA DEPT. OF PUBLIC HEALTH (see attached)
The CA Dept. of Public Health recently shared an alert regarding Fentanyl, an extremely potent and often lethal synthetic opioid.
    CA YOUTH AGES 10-19
    • Non-fatal opioid overdoses more than tripled from 2018 to 2020
    • Opioid-related overdose deaths increased 407% from 2018 to 2020
    • Fentanyl-related overdose deaths increased 625% from 2018 to 2020

It is a requirement of all of our PE teachers and Campus Officers. The District provides the training twice a year and I use my ASCIP safety funds to pay for it. Coaches are not contracted employees so they have to pay for their own training. They have to be a contracted employee and it must be in their job description to keep a current certificate in order for the district to pick up the cost.

Here at Chaffey Joint Union High School District all but two of our eight High SChool campuses are irrigated with recycled water so no we do not follow the cities restrictions on those campuses.

Be careful… According to Calif Labor Code 2802 requires employers to reimburse for “all necessary business expenditures or losses incurred by the employee in direct consequence of the discharge of his or her duties” You can not expect an employee to use their personal cell phone for business unless you are reimbursing them for the use. We have had conversations about this with our unions in the past. Maybe voluntary if that is how they want to be communicated with but it can not be the only form of communication.

We asked the question of SSC and the response is below. We will continue with testing as required through the summer school and next year if there are no changes made by the Governor.

“Thank you for submitting your question to SSC. The August 11, 2021 order was an order of the State Public Health Officer, it has the force and effect of law and all local educational agencies and private schools in California must comply with it until it is officially revoked or replaced by a new order. To our knowledge, and based upon our research, the order has neither been replaced or revoked. So until that happens you are still required to test unvaccinated employees. Remember that order does not apply to board members or staff who are not at a school site or in regular contact with students.”

At Chaffey if a teacher has a medical exemption they still must wear a face shield that has a drape. I attached a picture of one. We also make sure that they have plexi shields hung from the ceilings between them and student, our Maintenance department makes and hangs these for us

WE went through the American Red Cross. They came out with 4 different vendors and demonstrated each device. The American Red Cross has special pricing with these vendors and provide some extras for free like the wall cabinets and cases. We have been dealing with them for about 5 years now and have been very happy. They also provide the monitoring system that is required through Plus Trac. My district currently has 88 AEDs on site in 8 high schools and other district offices/departments. i am not sure where you are located but you can reach out to me if you want my contact at American Red Cross.
