Hi, I am looking for a legal opinion/ district position regarding Diabetic monitoring. With the increases in technology, diabetic monitoring has shifted. Several of our distict nurses are somewhat concerned with liability.
1. What is the liability for nurses who are monitoring Students w/ Diabetes on school phones with a Dexcom App. There are concerns with students having a poor outcomes and nurses being liable. (ex. internet goes down, nurses are taking care of other students and not continuously looking at the phone)
2. Should nurses be providing continuous monitoring using the Dexcom App on school phones?
3. What is the responsibility in monitoring students during extracurricular activities?
4. When does the responsibility for medical monitoring begin and end?
Any guidance or exposure with this issue would be greatly appreciated.
